One of the most popular tooth whitening questions our patients ask us is, “How long will the whitening last?” Patients wonder whether tooth whitening is permanent.
Unfortunately, ZOOM tooth whitening is not a permanent procedure, and you need to remain vigilant to maintain your newly acquired luster. However, a few simple steps and the basic dental hygiene that every dentist recommends can help keep your teeth whiter for longer
Protecting Your Teeth
Tooth whitening isn’t permanent, and if you’re especially lax after your procedure you can find the results fading quickly.
Still, there are a few general steps you can take to keep your teeth shining after their whitening:
- Avoid foods and drinks that will stain your teeth. This especially applies to caffeinated beverages like soda and coffee, tea and red wine should be avoided or reduced.
- Don’t smoke. This is a big one. Aside from the obvious overall benefits of not smoking, your teeth will also thank you. Over time, smoking will dramatically stain your teeth, and if you smoke after getting your teeth whitened you will lose the bright new appearance quite quickly.
- Maintain good dental hygiene. In many ways, keeping your newly whitened teeth in their new state is as simple as following the usual hygiene steps your dentist recommends. Brush and floss twice a day and come in for frequent, regularly scheduled check-ups and cleanings. You can also use tooth whitening tooth paste to help maintain the lustre of your teeth.
Dr. Silver will discuss all of this with you at your initial consultation.
