What Are The Advantages of Going to a Family Dentist for Porcelain Crowns?

Most people don’t think of porcelain crowns when they think of family dentistry; after all, the porcelain crown procedure is cosmetic. But they can be a valuable part of your family dentistry experience as well.

Southcentre Dental can be a convenient hub for all of your dental needs, including both family and cosmetic dental treatments. This arrangement allows you to rely on one dentist who you trust for all of you and your family’s dental needs.

What Problems Can Porcelain Crowns Address?

Porcelain crowns are useful for doing a number of different things, including:

  • Replacing fillings (worn-out, cracked, damaged, old)
  • Replacing old or damaged crowns
  • Fixing broken teeth
  • Covering stained or discolored teeth
  • Covering dental implants
  • How Long Will My Porcelain Crowns Last?

One of the reasons we prefer porcelain at Southcentre Dental is because it’s a strong, long-lasting material. It can withstand bite pressure quite well. And it is obviously more inconspicuous and natural-looking than traditional gold.

It’s hard to offer an unqualified answer on exactly how long your porcelain crown will last; there are a lot of factors in play, including your bite and dental hygiene and the skill of the dentist. That said, a porcelain crown fitted by Dr. Cload should last you several years. If you take care of it and follow all of the steps laid out by Dr. Cload you can expect a porcelain crown to last for at least a decade.

However, Dr. Cload will give you a more detailed, personalized explanation and estimate himself.

Is My Porcelain Crown Pre-Made?

One of the things Dr. Cload has learned during his time in both family dentistry and cosmetic dentistry is that a one-size-fits-all approach is not wise. This is particularly true for dental procedures and equipment. When installing your porcelain crown, Dr. Cload will have a crown fitted especially for you. He won’t pull a crown out a drawer and try to make it fit.

Dr. Cload will take a mold of your tooth and send it to our lab. There, we will craft a porcelain crown that is fabricated with your specific measurements and needs in mind.

If you’re a Calgary resident and you’re looking for a dentist who can handle both your porcelain crowns and your family dentistry needs, please contact the Southcentre Dental Clinic today.
