Dental Bonding in Alberta
Because dental tooth bonding is safe, easy, affordable and painless, it is one of the most popular cosmetic dental procedures. Bonding is a versatile fix that can address a wide range of minor teeth issues like cracks, chips, gaps, spacing and discolouration.
Dental bonding is a procedure in which a tooth-coloured resin is applied, shaped to match your existing teeth and hardened with a special light, which ultimately "bonds" the material to the tooth.
The Dental Bonding Process
First, Calgary dentist Dr. Steven Cload will match the bonding material to your tooth colour. Then, he will apply it in small amounts to your affected tooth. Dental bonding resin is a soft and flexible formula, which makes it easy to apply and shape. Next, he’ll shape it to fit well with your opposing natural teeth for a comfortable bite and uniform appearance.
When the resin is appropriately shaped, it will be hardened with a curing light. Once it's hardened, the bonded tooth will be contoured to its final form. The bonded tooth will then be polished to a natural-looking finish.
Advantages of Dental Bonding
Tooth bonding can be applied in a single office visit without the use of anesthesia, unlike some other tooth-repair procedures. However, it’s important to note that dental bonding is not as durable as the porcelain used in other treatments such as veneers or crowns.
The longevity of your tooth bonding depends largely on the extent of bonding, the location of the teeth that have been bonded, and your dental hygiene. Bonding may last between three and 10 years before it needs to be touched up or replaced.
Because dental bonding material can chip and crack, you should avoid bad oral habits such as pen chewing, ice chewing and nail biting. For the most part, you bonded teeth will not require any additional special care aside from good dental hygiene practices.
