Is it your first visit to the dentist? Here’s what to expect

At Southcentre Dental, you can expect your first visit to the dentist to be comfortable and worry-free. Plus, we offer free consultation appointments for cosmetic dentistryInvisalignsleep apnea, and TMJ.

No matter your age or dental history, you can expect something similar at your first visit to the dentist. Perhaps it’s your first time visiting any dentist, or maybe it’s just your first time at Southcentre Dental. Either way, here’s what you can expect so you feel prepared.

What happens at your first visit to the dentist?

Can a dentist fill a cavity on your first visit? Will a dentist pull a tooth on your first visit? These are all commonly asked questions. Typically, unless it’s a dental emergency, the dentist will not perform any major procedures during your first visit. Instead, they take images of your teeth and discuss all your options with you, going over costs, procedure details and more.

Your first visit to the dentist shouldn’t be stressful. Instead, it should provide you with the advice and solutions you are seeking. Allow our relaxing environment and compassionate team of dental professionals to help you feel at ease.

At Southcentre Dental, you can expect the following at your first dental appointment:

1. Enjoy an open conversation about your dental concerns and/or goals

Now’s your chance to talk with a dentist about your teeth—all those questions you’ve tried Googling, you have a real professional to answer them now. You’ll discuss how your teeth feel, anything that’s bothering you, as well as any goals you may have, such as straighter teeth or a whiter smile.

2. Take x-ray images of your teeth to get a complete picture of your overall dental health

The dentist may take films of your teeth to identify issues and diagnose any pain or discomfort you are experiencing. Dental x-rays can tell so much about what’s going on inside of your teeth—things the naked eye could never see. Not only can we see if you have cavities, but in addition, we can see the severity of damages. As a result, we can create a list of the best possible options to address any issues.

3. Discuss options, costs, procedure details, and more

Lastly, you’ll discuss different options available to restore and maintain a healthy smile. We make it our mission to present you with all of your options, including the cost of each option, as well as the details of the procedure—how long it takes, recovery time, and so forth. Our goal is to help you make the best decision for you. After all, no two smiles or people are the same. That’s why we treat each patient as a unique individual.
