Smile enhancement will have a noticeable effect on your appearance, helping to boost your self-esteem and confidence. Your treatment plan can be as basic as tooth whitening services. Or, you can choose a full smile makeover that includes everything from tooth restoration or Veneers, Invisalign, and more.

If you don’t like your smile, then you shouldn’t hesitate to talk to an experienced cosmetic dentist. We’ll gladly schedule an exam where you can discuss your concerns and learn about treatment options. This no-pressure conversation will provide the information that you need, helping you choose the treatments that will design the smile of your dreams.

Are You a Good Candidate for Cosmetic Treatments?

Don’t mistakenly assume that cosmetic treatments are only for celebrities and wealthy people. Dental technology has advanced over the years, making these cosmetic treatments more affordable and accessible to the general population. Not many people have naturally perfect teeth, which is why cosmetic services are gaining in popularity. Millions of people have improved their appearance by working with a dentist that offers cosmetic services.

Some patients choose subtle changes, such as reshaping a few teeth or whitening the teeth for a brighter smile. Other people want to transform their smiles, so they choose full oral surgery. Various dentistry services are available to change the appearance of teeth that are chipped, broken, discolored, misshapen, or missing.

Cosmetic Dentistry Questions:

Selecting a cosmetic dentist in Calgary is an important decision because you want to be sure that you are working with someone who offers the experience and skills for the selected services. The expertise of your dentist will have an impact on the outcome of your treatment plan.

Cosmetic dentistry in Calgary can transform the appearance of your smile, but you need to be sure you select a trusted provider. Choose a cosmetic dentist in Calgary who has continued their training by taking continuing education classes for cosmetic treatments. Schedule an exam and consultation with your dentist of choice to discuss their experience and the treatments that are offered. Here are a few questions that you might ask during your consultation:

What is considered cosmetic dentistry?

Cosmetic dentistry is any type of dental procedure that is used to enhance or improve the appearance of teeth. It can be an elective service such as teeth whitening (bleaching) or dental veneers or using aesthetic techniques during restorative treatments (like crowns and bridges) to help teeth look their best while they’re being physically repaired.

Today’s dental materials like the fillings and crowns we use are usually designed with cosmetic characteristics in mind. That way the new restoration looks natural and blends in with your surrounding smile.

But if your teeth are completely healthy and don’t need to be restored, elective cosmetic dentistry in Calgary can take your smile to the next level. By adjusting their shape with bonding, recontouring, or veneers, you can minimize surface flaws for a better overall look. Bonding and whitening are some of the most affordable cosmetic dentistry treatments in Calgary!

If your teeth are chipped, uneven, crooked, gapped, or you just have a “gummy smile” that makes you feel self-conscious, you owe it to yourself to discuss which cosmetic treatments are available with our Calgary dentist.

What are the benefits of cosmetic dentistry?

Calgary cosmetic dentistry helps to address aesthetic concerns related to your smile. For instance, if you’re embarrassed because a front tooth is misshaped or there’s some noticeable staining that you can’t get rid of, cosmetic treatments can help your teeth look whiter, straighter, and properly sized. What a lot of people don’t realize is how their smile’s appearance affects their personality, social life, career, and self-esteem. When you feel embarrassed about the way your teeth look, you tend to smile less often and as a result can seem not as friendly as you really are. By investing in cosmetic dentistry, some people find that they’re more comfortable in social settings and smiling around other people. In fact, experiments have shown that people with beautiful teeth tend to be thought of as friendlier and perform better in job interviews. Investing in gorgeous teeth isn’t just about looking great in photos. It’s something that most people wish they had done for themselves even sooner. And the great thing is that our Calgary dentist can adjust your smile makeover to meet your needs, timeline, and budget!

What is included in cosmetic dentistry?

With cosmetic dentistry, there are strictly aesthetic treatments – like whitening and veneers – or restorative procedures that are performed for a dual purpose (such as white fillings and crowns.)

If you’re getting a smile makeover, our Calgary dentist will review the types of cosmetic treatments appropriate for your concerns so that you can weigh the benefits of each one against the next. The final treatment plan will be a tooth-by-tooth approach that lists out the specific types of procedures, appointments, costs, and phases involved.

Generally speaking, cosmetic dentistry is any type of elective procedure that’s used to enhance the way your smile looks. Whitening, for example, brightens the color of your teeth but it doesn’t treat gum disease or tooth decay. Dental veneers can make your smile look straighter in just a couple of appointments, but they’re not used for addressing excessive decay and wear. Ultimately, a cosmetic procedure is something you elect to get to help improve the appearance of your teeth as opposed to manage existing disease or wear.

What is the difference between a dentist and a cosmetic dentist?

General dentists provide comprehensive family and cosmetic dentistry services. Although there are a variety of different dental specialties, cosmetic dentistry is not one of them. Rather, cosmetic dentistry is an approach to care that incorporates aesthetic techniques and procedures to help patients feel comfortable and confident in their smiles. Depending on the type of cosmetic dentistry that you’re getting, you’ll want a dentist who has an artistic hand and eye for detail. Our Calgary dentist also works closely with local dental labs who hand design porcelain restorations such as veneers and crowns for optimal aesthetics. If you’re looking for cosmetic dentistry, you don’t need a “cosmetic dentist”. Rather, turn to your experience Calgary general/family dentistry office who offers cosmetic treatments in their practice! During your consultation, be sure to ask which types of services are available, as not all Calgary dentists offer the same types of smile makeovers. If you’re looking for porcelain veneers, same-day teeth whitening, etc., make sure to find out if those procedures are available before scheduling your initial exam.

Can a general dentist do cosmetic dentistry?

Absolutely. Cosmetic dentistry is a category of dental services. In fact, many cosmetic procedures overlap with general and restorative treatments. For example, today’s dental fillings are usually made of matching white material that blends in with your tooth, as opposed to dark metals. The same can be said for porcelain dental crowns and bridges. Incorporating cosmetic dentistry into your dental care plan can help to enhance your natural smile and give you a reason to show your teeth off more often! If you feel embarrassed by your smile or a specific tooth, be sure to let our Calgary dentist know. We can discuss which options are available to correct the concern and enhance the way your teeth look. Cosmetic dentistry is not a specialty like other types of treatment are. Rather, it’s a vision and incorporation of aesthetic services to help enhance the self-esteem and confidence of our Calgary patients. Almost any cosmetic treatment can be completed right here in our Southcentre Mall office! We work closely with experienced labs and select appropriate materials to help you get the most out of your smile design process.

What are cosmetic dental procedures?

Typical cosmetic dental procedures include treatments like teeth whitening, porcelain veneers, composite bonding, tooth recontouring, gum recontouring, and cosmetic (“short term”) braces for front teeth. But even your typical restorative treatments like fillings, crowns, bridges, and dental implants can serve a cosmetic purpose! In a broad sense, “cosmetic” treatments are specifically used to address the way your teeth look, rather than repair disease and decay. They’re an elective procedure that you can have at any point as long as your teeth are relatively healthy. When you’re planning cosmetic treatment, our Calgary dentist will first discuss what you want to achieve and which flaws in your smile you hope to minimize. From there, we’ll create a customized care plan that lists out the best cosmetic dentistry options for your situation. It’s not uncommon for care plans to also include restorative treatments made out of cosmetic materials, such as white fillings or crowns. That way any damaged or compromised teeth can still be enhanced cosmetically while they’re being physically restored.

Is cosmetic dentistry covered by insurance?

Usually not. A true cosmetic procedure like whitening or veneers is an elective treatment. That means it’s not physically required to protect or repair your teeth. So, if you opt for that type of a cosmetic procedure, it’s not normal for your dental insurance to cover it. However, if we need to treat tooth decay, broken teeth, or replace missing teeth, our Calgary dentist can use restorative treatments made from cosmetic materials like porcelain and composite resin. When that’s the case, restorations – which include things like crowns or fillings – are typically covered by your dental insurance as long as they meet specific criteria. When we’re working through your treatment options, our financial coordinators will help to verify your insurance coverage so that you have a good idea as to what’s covered (or not). That way the treatment plan will be able to tabulate your benefits as they relate to the fees on specific types of procedures, whether they’re cosmetic or restorative. You’ll be able to have a good idea as to what’s covered (and how much) before you ever schedule the treatment.

What can cosmetic dentistry fix?

Cosmetic dentistry is great for transforming your smile into one of your best accessories! If you have teeth that are short, chipped, uneven, gapped, crooked, worn-down, stained, missing, or even a “gummy smile”, then there’s a cosmetic dentistry treatment available to help. Depending on the severity of your smile needs, our Calgary dentist might also incorporate restorative procedures (like implants, crowns, or white fillings) to help enhance your appearance while repairing damaged teeth. We’re able to take any smile and completely transform it, even if all of your teeth are missing or need to be extracted. If you’re looking for inspiration to get started on your smile makeover, ask to see some of our “before and after” photographs of cases that we’ve completed. When you find one that’s similar to yours, it will give you a better idea as to what you can expect from cosmetic treatment. Or, feel free to bring us pictures of other smiles you like. And yes, it’s ok to bring examples of smiles you don’t care for, so that we can keep that in mind too!

How much does it cost to have perfect teeth?

Every smile makeover is individually designed to meet the needs of the specific patient. That includes how much the cosmetic dentistry costs. Some people may have a smaller budget to work with, while others are ready to spend everything necessary to change up their smile as quickly as possible. The first step to figuring the cost of your smile makeover is to discuss which options are available for your specific needs. For example, if you have some discoloration with a few areas of uneven enamel, we might only recommend professional teeth whitening and cosmetic bonding. Both of these treatments are budget savvy yet extremely effective. Or if you prefer a “go big or go home” approach, we can discuss dazzling cosmetic veneers across your front teeth to instantly change the way they look. But since everyone’s smile is different, some people might need more or less veneers than the next person. Our Calgary dentist will give you an itemized treatment plan for you to consider your options. Once you know what choices you have and how much they cost, you’ll be able to plan for the next steps, such as insurance or financing. We have something for every budget!

How much is a full set of veneers?

The cost of dental veneers in Calgary depends on two factors: how many veneers you need and the type of veneer that you’re getting. Everyone’s smile is shaped differently. For most of us, if we’re getting dental veneers it means placing them on the top front teeth that are visible when you’re smiling. That might be the six front teeth, or if you have a wider smile, more like 8-10. And in other situations, there could be a need to place the veneers on the lower front teeth, doubling the amount of veneers used for your case. Since the price of veneers is per tooth, the number of teeth that you’re covering is one of the biggest factors affecting cost. Veneers are priced significantly different when it comes to the material that’s used to create them. For more dramatic and durable veneers, you’ll want a design that’s crafted out of porcelain. Porcelain veneers are more of an investment, but they last longer and tend to look more realistic. There are also veneers that can be made in our office by hand, out of composite resin (which is the same material used for white fillings.) These chairside veneers are much cheaper, but they aren’t as durable or offer a translucent hue to the tooth. For that reason, they’re best used in situations that only involve one or two teeth.
