Providing Better Smiles to Calgary & nearby areas of Alberta

Porcelain veneers and porcelain crowns are made from the same durable, dental-grade porcelain, but they are used to treat very different dental problems.

Calgary dentist Dr. Jennifer Silver often uses porcelain veneers to treat a wide range of minor cosmetic imperfections including:

  • Chipped teeth
  • Cracked teeth
  • Slightly crooked teeth
  • Discoloured teeth
  • Slightly misshaped teeth
  • Slightly spaced or gapped teeth

Porcelain veneers are thin, shell-like layers of porcelain that are custom made to conform with your natural teeth in contour and appearance, then tightly bonded to the surfaces of your affected teeth to provide a functional bite and beautifully aligned smile.

Porcelain crowns are generally used in restorative dentistry treatments including:

  • Capping teeth damaged by injury or decay
  • Replacing metal amalgam fillings
  • Replacing damaged crowns
  • Capping dental implants
  • Covering and protecting teeth treated with root canals

Porcelain is an ideal material for both dental veneers and crowns because it is strong but can also be custom shaped and coloured to match your existing teeth and help create a seamless smile. Furthermore, porcelain is stain resistant and easy to keep clean with a good dental hygiene routine that includes brushing and flossing at least twice every day, as well as routine check-ups and professional teeth cleanings with Dr. Silver.
