If they choose to specialize in a specific type of service, they can return to school for another 2-3 years to become an expert in a key dental service, such as orthodontics.

General dentists are often referred to as family dentists or cosmetic dentists, because of the wide range of services they offer under one roof. General dentists often continue taking professional development courses to become better skilled in various services, such as dental implants, dental veneers, or sedation. In fact, they’re legally required to meet a minimum number of training hours per year! But some love learning so much, that they take more courses than are required. Every general dentist passes special board exams and must maintain active licensure in their region in order to practice.

Dentists routinely perform procedures related to tooth decay, gum disease, and dental emergencies. They can also replace missing teeth, restore damaged ones, and screen for conditions related to underlying health problems. Additionally, dentists evaluate people for oral cancer, perform tooth extractions and oral surgery, complete wisdom tooth removal, and offer preventative services that lower a person’s risk of oral health problems in the future.

Dr. Silver has been treating Calgarians’ teeth for the past 15 years! Jennifer believes in treating the whole patient and has a special interest in helping patients with TMJ pain and Sleep Apnea. She has a great understanding of patients’ needs and enjoys taking time to discuss procedures and treatment options in a calm and reassuring manner. Dr. Silver is comfortable treating patients of all ages and welcomes new patients.
